Church Of Christ History

The Churches of Christ is an association of autonomous Christian congregations based on the Bible doctrine. Our practices are based on Bible texts drawn on the early Christian church as described in the New Testament. Our distinguishing beliefs are that of the necessity of baptism for salvation and the prohibition of instruments in worship. We are nondenominational. The Churches of Christ arose from the Restoration Movement of 19th-century evangelism by groups who declared independence from denominations and traditional creeds. They sought "the unification of all Christians in a single body patterned after the original church of the New Testament. There are now Churches of Christ in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, Central America, and Europe.

The Church Of Christ In Zambia
It is widely believed that the Church Of Christ in Zambia started in Livingstone at around the year 1907 by man called Peter Masiya who is said to have come from either Malawi or Mozambique. He settled in Livingstone in Chief Mukuni's Village near the Victoria Falls. At that time there were no schools in the area hence, he started preaching the word of God as well as teaching those who believed in Christ how to read and write.

At about the year 1912, Mr. Bulawayo, a teacher by proffession came from Zimbabwe and set up what is believed to be the first Church of Christ Mission School in Chief Mukuni’s area. Mr. Bulawayo later settled at Ngweze area with his family and eventually died due to old age. His grandchildren still live in Zambia to this day. It is from here that the Church of Christ Misssion Schools spread to Nsinde, Ngweze and Sianalumba in Livingstone. Other mission schools that opened included the Kabanga Mission in Kalomo. In 1923 the Namwianga Mission opened and is currently the biggest Church of Christ Mission that runs schools and hospitals among others.
